Members of the Article 31 committee on May 19 were unable to reach an agreement on the EU-US Privacy Shield, arguing that more time was necessary “to consider the implications of the proposal,” Ars Technica reports. However, an anonymous source from the European Commission called the meeting “very constructive,” predicting further discussions in May and June. “The commission had said directly after the Article 29 [opinion] that we would incorporate a number of useful recommendations by the data protection authorities,” the source added. “This is what we are doing now and updating the Article 31 on the ongoing work.” The committee has veto power over the agreement ​and must reach a qualified majority of 16 Member States in favor before it can move forward, the report states.
