The Financial Times reports augmented reality company Niantic is pursuing development for the metaverse, building off the success of their mobile AR game, Pokémon Go. Called Lightship Augmented Reality Developer Kit, the platform is accessible and free for external game developers with fewer than 50,000 monthly active users. Third party developers will have access to Niantic's "treasure chest of technology and data," including the location data collected from millions of Pokémon Go players across the globe.
