The Australian Public Service Commission has said just “correcting the record” is not always good enough if a public service address releases someone’s personal information, The Mandarin reports. The APSC explained, “For example, simply correcting wrong information may not be sufficient justification for disclosing personal information.” The answer marked a deviation from the Department of Human Services release of Andie Fox’s personal information to a journalist. The DHS had said it needed to “correct the record” after Fox wrote critically about her experience of recent efforts to chase potential debts. APSC added, “Any value arising from disclosing this type of information needs to be measured against a possible risk to public confidence.”
