In an effort to comply with China’s new cybersecurity regulations introduced last month, Apple announced the opening of its first Chinese-based data center, which will operate with a local data management company, The New York Times reports. China's new Cybersecurity Law has been criticized for vague wording, leaving many to wonder how regulations will be enforced. Apple insists that there will be “strong data privacy and security protections in place.” Apple’s local partnership is thought to be a model other foreign companies will adopt. Meanwhile, on July 10, the Cyberspace Administration of China published a new draft of Regulations on Protecting the Security of Key Information Infrastructure and has opened it up for public comment.
