Vice President of the European Commission Andrus Ansip and EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality Věra Jourová released a statement discussing the General Data Protection Regulation one year ahead of its implementation. Ansip and Jourová said the success of the GDPR depends on member states adapting their national laws to implement the legislation. “We have one year to work with all member states and to engage with companies to make this happen. This work should be stepped up and reinforced to ensure harmonisation and avoid fragmentation in the implementation,” Ansip and Jourová write. “Within the year we will also launch an EU-wide campaign to raise awareness so that Europeans are conscious of their rights.”
