European Commission Vice President Andrus Ansip said all media and telecommunication companies should have the ability to monetize user data, CNBC reports. Ansip, who is also the commissioner of the Digital Single Market, said traditional media companies should have the same chance to use data as social media companies. "Everybody is talking about (the) data economy but today you see the situation is quite unfair. Some players can use data they have and some other players are regulated, practically it is impossible to use the data they have in their hands," Ansip said. "But I think it will be normal when, on (the) basis of people's consent, all the players can monetize the data they have."
