In an interview with Multichannel News, Association of National Advertisers Group Executive Vice President of Government Relations Dan Jaffe offered his organization's perspective on a wide range of data privacy topics. Jaffe began the session with thoughts on the California Consumer Privacy Act, notably saying he does not "think that privacy rules work on a state-by-state basis." Jaffe explained complying with the CCPA, other state laws and, for some organizations, the EU General Data Protection Regulation has been a financial burden that could be alleviated by federal U.S. privacy legislation. To the notion of passing federal legislation sooner rather than later, Jaffe said, "I don’t know what’s possible. I just know what’s needed."
