Amnesty International is urging New York City to ban the use of facial recognition technology in mass surveillance by law enforcement, the Guardian reports. The organization is asking citizens to file comments on the use of the technology by the New York Police Department under the Public Oversight of Surveillance Technologies Act and will help residents with freedom-of-information requests. “New Yorkers should be able to go out about their daily lives without being tracked by facial recognition,” AI and Human Rights Researcher Matt Mahmoudi said.
