CNBC reports Amazon instituted a one-year moratorium on the use of its facial recognition software by law enforcement. In a statement, Amazon said it previously urged governments to explore "stronger regulations to govern the ethical use of facial recognition technology." With the moratorium, Amazon will allow U.S. Congress "enough time to implement appropriate rules." While Amazon and IBM have backed off facial recognition, Clearview AI CEO Hoan Ton-That said his company will press forward with its controversial software.
