Greenpeace Netherlands has published what it maintains is a “partial draft” of the EU & U.S. Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, which some contend appears to highlight a forthcoming weakening of European privacy laws, Wired reports. While the agreement could yield financial windfalls for the participating nations, critics argue that its privacy consequences could be vast, “while giving more power to corporations to sue governments,” the report states. “It begs to be said, again and again: No EU trade agreement will ever lower our level of protection of consumers,” European Commissioner for Trade Cecilia Malmström said. She did not, however, comment on the authenticity of Greenpeace’s alleged draft.
