The National Privacy Commission has ordered 67 Philippine online lenders to explain alleged violations of the Data Privacy Act, The Philippine Star reports. Officials of companies operating the online lending apps are required to appear at a summary hearing before the NPC 15 Oct. The commission received complaints the apps used personal information from complainants’ mobile contact lists to contact third parties and disclose personal information without user consent, in addition to using the borrowers’ contact lists to "embarrass, harass, threaten or coerce them to settle their loans," according to the report.
