Alibaba Health announced it is partnering with three mainland hospitals to launch its first artificial intelligence medical lab to address what is increasingly seen as a discrepancy in care between urban and rural centers, the South China Morning Post reports. The labs are expected to employ a blockchain-technology-enabled platform that will connect its network of hospitals. Wang Lei, CEO of Alibaba Health, explained, “Thanks to the internet of things and rapid advances in cloud computing, health care has become a phenomenon industry.” With chronic disease on the rise in China’s population, Wang Weilin, director of an affiliate hospital of Zhejiang University, said, “AI technology can help address such an imbalance and improve screening of high-risk diseases.”
