The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta published a review of data processing activities by liquor store Alcanna. The regulator's probe focused on Alcanna's ID-scanning technology, which OIPC found to be mostly legal under data collection provisions in the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act. OIPC recommended Alcanna increase its data minimization practices with the technology. Information and Privacy Commissioner Jill Clayton said the GLCA presents "a number of practical challenges" with potential privacy infringements and she intends to discuss solutions with relevant stakeholders.
