An audit revealed 2,158 patient electronic health records were illicitly accessed at Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, CTV News Edmonton reports. The majority of the records belonged to emergency patients and were housed within the Alberta Public Laboratories clinical lab within the hospital. APL privacy officials said there is no evidence the information was used inappropriately. The audit focused on patient record access between December 2018 and May 2019. The investigation found 30 employees had opened patient records without the proper permission, three of whom no longer work at the hospital. Patients affected by the breach were sent mailed notifications Oct. 3.
