A group of artificial intelligence researchers has asked Amazon to no longer sell facial-recognition technology to law enforcement, The New York Times reports. Researchers from Google, Facebook, Microsoft and several universities around the world signed a letter addressed to Amazon. The researchers state Amazon’s facial-recognition technology has been shown to have higher error rates when used on women and people of color. The letter also addressed points made by Amazon Web Services General Manager of Artificial Intelligence Matt Wood and AWS Vice President of Global Public Policy Michael Punke. (Registration may be required to access this story.)
