Following the death of privacy and technology expert Peter Eckersley in September 2022, artificial intelligence entrepreneur Deger Turan signed on to lead the AI Objectives Institute, the organization Eckersley hoped would "course-correct AI's evolution to safeguard the future of humanity," Wired reports. The organization's goal is not "to restrain AI's progress but to steer its objectives away from … single-minded, destructive forces," such as the climate crisis, income inequality and "rampant nationalism."
