MIT Technology Review announced that AI Now has plans to tackle biased algorithms, something that is seen by many as a major societal issue associated with the development of AI and machine learning. AI Now launched this initiative with the goal of identifying and highlighting such bias, particularly since bias could have negative consequences for minorities and disadvantaged communities. Together with the American Civil Liberties Union, a group of researchers will work to understand the impact this has not only for the potentially serious consequences for populations but also to help shape policy regarding transparency, something AI Now's founders warn will not come from U.S President Donald Trump's administration due to what AI Now believes is the administration's general lack of interest in AI and science more broadly.
