Spain's data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, posted a blog discussing the use of Secure Multiparty Computing as a privacy-enhancing technology to facilitate joint research. The AEPD explained SMPC is a suitable tool for collaboration among research groups because it "allows secret data to be segmented into different parts, so that, when the data is shared, the original data cannot be revealed by any of the sources." The regulator offered a step-by-step example of deploying SMPC in practice.
