Biometric Update reports six civil rights groups are demanding South Korea's government end its efforts to build an artificial intelligence-based biometric database. The system is being devised for use at airports to track immigration and the government has reportedly turned over 170 million facial images to the private company devising the system. The advocacy groups called the system "a devastating infringement" of privacy and argued it violates the country's Personal Information Protection Act.
