NPR reports while the Chinese government attempts to address nationwide online privacy concerns, there have been some individual efforts to better secure personal information. Former hotel reviewer Wu Dong has begun campaigning for better legal avenues for reporting data breaches and seeking compensation for damages after being subjected to a personal information leak. Former Amazon China Chief Security Officer Yang Geng launched Entropage, a startup that supplies encryption practices for email and messaging apps. "If the Internet develops further as it is today, privacy eventually will be the most expensive commodity in a society," Yang said.
