Consumer Reports and the Electronic Privacy Information Center published a white paper detailing steps the U.S. Federal Trade Commission should take on privacy rulemaking. The report suggests the FTC take steps toward a data minimization rule, bans on secondary data uses, data transparency obligations and nondiscrimination rules. Consumer Reports Director of Technology Policy Justin Brookman said the FTC should act in response to "continued erosion of consumer privacy" while EPIC Executive Director and President Alan Butler said it is "time for rules that put users first and end these invasive and unfair business practices."
