In a complaint filed with the European Ombudsman, a coalition of privacy organizations accuses the EU of disregarding data protection in its support of law enforcement “surveillance” in third countries, Euractiv reports. The organizations say EU bodies and agencies did not conduct an impact assessment of potential privacy and human rights implications of law enforcement surveillance capabilities in countries including those in Africa and the Western Balkans. "Without prior human rights impact assessments, such actions could pose serious threats,” Homo Digitalis Co-Founder Manos Papadakis said.
