The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood and the Center for Digital Democracy are calling on the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether learning applications deemed "teacher approved" by Google are violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, Reuters reports. The groups allege the apps are collecting minors' data without parental consent for the purpose of targeted advertising. Google replied by saying it promotes "a positive and safe environment for children and families," adding it "will continue to make the protection of children on our platform a priority."
