A coalition of advocacy groups has sent a letter to the authors of the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 urging them not to weaken any aspects of the bill. The groups state a proposal by California lawmakers to alter the CCPA would significantly weaken the bill, adding the focus should be on cleaning up technical errors within the law. “The sky is not falling, as industry suggests. Rather, AB 375 requires only that companies take certain steps to protect consumer privacy. What is allegedly 'unworkable' today will be workable once companies comply with the law,” the letter reads.
