The Hill reports U.S. lawmakers are being pressed by advocacy groups to allow consumer and privacy groups to have a bigger role in drafting federal data privacy legislation. The Electronic Privacy Information Center and Center for Digital Democracy were among the groups that helped write a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary's new task force on technology, which will focus on privacy law recommendations, saying they can "no longer let industry groups and ineffective agencies decide how much privacy Americans may have." Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., responded to the letter by inviting select groups to partake in talks, saying "we do think their voices should be heard in the discussion on privacy legislation."
