As the Texas Legislature considers privacy legislation, advertising trade associations wrote to the Texas Privacy Protection Advisory Council urging it to be mindful of “unintended side effects” that could place “unreasonable restrictions on digital advertising.” Consumers and businesses would be “detrimentally” impacted, they said. In particular, the associations encourage rejecting proposals that rely on consumers’ opt-in consent for data collection, which they call an “overly restrictive approach.” Editor’s note: IAPP Staff Writer Joe Duball wrote about the council’s efforts in this piece for The Privacy Advisor.
