In a post for the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation, Policy Analyst Ellysse Dick said data privacy’s patchwork regulatory landscape “leaves critical gaps” in privacy risks created by augmented and virtual reality devices. The devices “raise new privacy issues” due to the technologies involved and the sensitive information they collect, she said, calling for “an innovation-friendly regulatory environment” that includes “introducing comprehensive national privacy legislation.” Common Sense Media recently released a white paper on VR technologies.
