A coalition of major ad industry groups said in a letter to U.S. Rep. Timm Ormsby, D-Wash., the Washington Privacy Act could “unleash a flood of frivolous litigation,” MediaPost reports. The groups, which include the American Association of Advertising Agencies and Interactive Advertising Bureau, focused on the private right of action in the proposed bill. “A private right of action would expose businesses to extraordinary and potentially enterprise-threatening costs for technical violations of the bill rather than driving systemic and helpful changes to business practices,” the groups wrote.
