In an article for The Wire, Security Researcher Karan Saini chronicles the controversy surrounding India’s biometric authentication program, Aadhaar, since its inception two years ago and the debate over the program’s constitutionality. With the Indian Supreme Court having finished its last day of hearings in the case challenging Aadhaar’s constitutionality, the court has now reserved the matter for judgment. Saini wrote that the Unique Identification Authority of India “has repeatedly shown an attitude of hostility and dismissiveness when it comes to fixing security and privacy issues which are present in the Aadhaar ecosystem. It has also shown no signs of how it plans to tackle this problem.”
