The Washington Post compared major features of digital payment applications, saying none “earn a ringing endorsement” for privacy. Of the top eight apps reviewed, all can collect and store users’ personal information, which could include name, payment history and location. Technology and Civil Liberties Director at the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California Nicole Ozer said users pay beyond money “with massive amounts of information about who they are, where they are, what they’re doing and potentially who they know.”
