A data breach of the Kansas Department of Commerce's data system, which was used by multiple states, compromised more than 5.5 million Social Security numbers and an additional 805,000 accounts without SSNs, KCUR reports. The data comes from Kansasworks.com, a site that helps connect people looking for jobs. The operator of the Kansas DOC, America's Job Link Alliance-TS, discovered the incident in March. KCUR, Kansas Public Radio, KMUW and High Plains Public Radio obtained the information through an open records request.
