The International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners will host its 40th annual conference in October 2018 in Brussels, Belgium, the agency's chair and New Zealand Privacy Commissioner John Edwards, announced in a news release. The ICDPPC is "delighted" that the event would take place in Europe "just a few months after the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation is due to commence," Edwards said. Additionally, the European Data Protection Supervisor and the Commission for Personal Data Protection of the Republic of Bulgaria will co-host the event, marking the first time the conference has had a co-host from a supranational member authority and a co-host from the Western Balkans, the release states. In a separate statement, the EDPS called the event "an important step in the recently launched international debate on the ethical dimension of data protection in the digital era."
