The NSW privacy commissioner is conducting an investigation after Service NSW sent 2,693 photo ID card, such as drivers licenses, disabled parking permits, and firearm licenses, to the wrong recipients, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. While the IDs were cancelled and new ones printed, victims of the error have been warned to be alert for potential fraud, while gun shops have been told to be "extra vigilant" about checking IDs, the report states. "This breach is of particular concern as it occurs at a time when the NSW government is increasing its digital interaction and service provision with the NSW community," said Acting NSW Privacy Commissioner Elizabeth Coombs. The report adds that Service NSW "will investigate the breach and report to the privacy commissioner, who will then decide if further action will be taken."
