In addition to cementing the ban on Kaspersky Lab products, this year’s $700 billion National Defense Authorization Act includes key cybersecurity provisions, CyberScoop reports. Among some of the provisions, the NDAA states the president will “develop a national policy for the United States relating to cyberspace, cybersecurity, and cyber warfare.” The Defense Department’s chief information officer will take on new responsibilities under the new NDAA, and the Pentagon will create a coordinated method of addressing cybersecurity-related events. It also prohibits U.S. defense organizations from signing satellite service contracts with companies the defense secretary deems are associated with a “foreign country, or by an entity controlled in whole or in part by, or acting on behalf of, the government of a covered foreign country.” The 2018 NDAA also ensures funding is allocated to cyber education and scholarship programs.
