UK Home Office Secretary of State Theresa May has initiated a public consultation on the necessary retention of biometric data for the purpose of national security, reports Biometric Update. While fingerprints and other DNA evidence are vital to police investigations, protecting innocent individuals who have their DNA taken and held by police is also of concern.
