British Columbia Privacy Commissioner Elizabeth Denham is investigating the use of personal e-mail accounts by those involved in a Liberal government plan to attract ethnic voters, citing concerns the accounts were used to “evade access to information laws” and questioning “whether personal information was inappropriately shared,” reports The Canadian Press. Her office has warned of the risks of using personal accounts for government duties and released guidelines on the freedom of information law. “A duty to document is not only in the public interest; it promotes openness and transparency, good governance and provides documentation of government’s legacy for future generations,” she stated.
