With the aim of improving the registration process itself and providing more accessible information to individuals about how their personal information is used, the ICO has launched a registration reform consultation, which will close on 30 November.

The consultation asks whether the registration and payment process should go fully online; whether the register should contain contact details to help individuals with questions about the use of their personal data, and whether data controllers should have the option of providing a more narrative description of the data processing they carry out, with the opportunity to link the organisation's privacy policy.

While organisations are likely to welcome improvements to the registration process, the consultation does not allude to the ongoing data protection reform process, which will eventually make registrations obsolete.
