The U.S. Supreme Court will hear a case involving whether lawyers can legally obtain personal data gleaned from driver’s license records to recruit individuals for lawsuits, the Associated Press reports. The appeal comes from three South Carolina residents who were solicited by lawyers to join a lawsuit against car dealers, the report states. The justices will determine whether the lawyers’ actions contravened federal privacy law pertaining to the protection of driver’s license records. The federal law does have a lawsuit exception.
