Federal investigators have charged a former employee of Michigan's Newland Medical Center and her boyfriend with 15 counts of ID theft and criminal enterprise, reports The former employee reportedly stole cancer patient information and gave it to her boyfriend, who then used the information to get credit cards with which the couple stole hundreds of thousands of dollars in merchandise. According to the report, the FTC Web site recommends steps to take if your identity is stolen, including placing a fraud alert on your credit reports and alerting the police in your community, among others.
