Direct telemarketers, financial institutions and healthcare organizations will receive the most attention from the Italian Data Protection Authority (IDPA, or Garante) based on its inspections schedule through July of this year. According to an IDPA press release, the authority will investigate organizations in these sectors to assess compliance with Italian data protection legislation currently in force. Since January 2009 the Garante has carried out 500 investigations, resulting in roughly 368 resolutions and fines totaling about 1,600,000 euros. (Story in Italian.)
