The European Court of Justice has told Sweden it must implement the European Union's Data Retention Directive, but Justice Minister Beatrice Ask has said the government will not take action on the issue prior to this autumn's general election, The Local reports. "The extent to which private companies should be forced to store information about the activities of individuals is an important matter of principle," Ask said. Although the directive requiring telecom operators to store information about their customers' phone calls and e-mails was approved by the EU in 2006, Sweden has not yet enacted it.
