A Disney Classic in the Making
For many, September means back to the books, and that's certainly true for the privacy pros who will take the IAPP Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) exam this month. The CIPP is fast becoming de rigueur in the marketplace and we look forward to rolling out our newest certification, the CIPP/IT, in just a couple of weeks.
Here at IAPP HQ, we're putting the finishing touches on preparations for this month's big gig: Privacy Academy 2008, our first-ever event at Disney World. We think the magic is already working because, in addition to a slate of wonderful keynote speakers and presenters, representatives from the major U.S. presidential campaigns will join us. With fewer than 60 days to go until one of the most historic U.S. presidential elections ever, we're giving them the platform to share their privacy platforms, and we're thrilled to bring them to you, our members. (For more information, turn to page seven.)
Speaking of members, the IAPP is growing at a rate of about 100 per month. If the Privacy Academy will be your first IAPP event, we hope you will join us at the newcomers' breakfast on Wednesday, September 24.
Next month we'll be in Strasbourg for the 30th International Data Protection Conference. We're excited to be involved in this event, themed: "Protecting privacy in a borderless world," which will feature presentations from the privacy commissioners of Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, Spain, Hong Kong and the European Union, in addition to those of privacy officers from global organizations.
Indeed, it seems as if the world's borders become more transparent every day. In this issue of The Privacy Advisor, we'll explore this phenomenon as it applies to privacy in the workplace, in public and across the globe.
J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP
