IAPP Privacy Update: Mark Your Calendars

As summer draws to a close, IAPP staffers are busy making plans to provide all of our members top-notch opportunities to network, educate and certify during the second half of 2007 and beyond. From the time-tested results of the IAPP's annual anchor events — the Privacy Summit and Academy — to new events we are adding to our lineup, we are working eagerly to offer the tools you need to better serve your companies and customers. Whether you are a new member or a veteran to our field, the IAPP is the proven nucleus for a growing number of privacy professionals from around the world. In fact, our most recent membership numbers show more than 3,700 members in 31 countries.

With growth comes opportunity — and we are seizing our position as the profession's leading global resource to unveil new programs and events in addition to the IAPP Privacy Academy 2007, Oct. 22-24, in San Francisco.

The IAPP will launch our second Delegate Tour of 2007 — this time to India. On the heels of enormous success during our June privacy trek to Berlin, Paris and London, we are looking forward to leading a group of privacy pros to India during the week of November 12. Watch for more details soon about how to apply to be a member of this exciting journey to one of the world's hotbeds for privacy and security.

In December, please mark your calendars for the IAPP's second annual Privacy Dinner in Washington, D.C. The Dec. 11 dinner will coincide with a Governmental Privacy Day — a combination of programming and networking that privacy pros should not miss.

Full-throttle planning is under way for 2008, which holds the promise of new events and an expansion of our Certified Information Privacy Professional certification programs. I can tell you at this juncture that the IAPP will launch a new annual Canadian conference. And that's not all — but for now, that is enough to help you plan your IAPP privacy calendar and entice all of you to watch this space for more news about our upcoming plans.

If you haven't already, please register for the Academy at www.privacyacademy.org, as we are certain of a sell-out with a lineup of 120 speakers and other aspects of our major West Coast conference.

J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP
Executive Director, IAPP
