Privacy is hot in Washington right now, which makes the IAPP Privacy Summit 07 the perfect venue for some of the most influential figures in the privacy arena. Among the top keynote draws for the Summit are U.S. Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales, who will be joining Federal Trade Commission Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras and other esteemed speakers to address a standing-room-only crowd of about 1,000 attendees.

Now in its 7th year, the Summit is expected to draw the largest annual gathering of privacy professionals in the world to the Renaissance Washington DC Hotel, March 7-9.

"Privacy and security issues will be at the top of the legislative agenda in 2007," said IAPP Board President Kirk M. Herath, CIPP/G, AVP, Associate General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer, Nationwide Insurance Cos. "Both the new U.S. Congress and the emerging field of presidential candidates are elevating privacy through high-profile legislative proposals and we expect to see a variety of bills drafted and debated in the U.S. as well as internationally.
The IAPP Privacy Summit 07 will clarify and expand this debate by offering the latest insights on international privacy laws, policies and standards. Our attendees will hear directly from the most diverse, influential and knowledgeable regulators and experts."
The IAPP Privacy Summit is highly regarded for its combination of educational programs and networking forums. The 2007 summit agenda is designed to allow attendees to build their own programming on an advanced or general level. It will offer sessions across several industry sectors, with a particular focus on regulators, enforcement, vendor relationships and information-sharing.

Certification training (CIPP/C, part 1; and CIPP/G) kicks off Tuesday, March 6, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The next day, before the conference is in full-swing, the Summit offers attendees some intensive 4-hour training possibilities with our Precon offerings, which are specially priced for attendees who select to attend two sessions. The Precon program pairs sessions by topic, giving a privacy pro the opportunity to focus intently in one area - at special pricing.

On the morning of March 7, the offerings are:

  • Understanding Enterprise Data Flows and Classifications
  • AICPA/CICA Privacy Framework: Building and Auditing Privacy Programs

The afternoon sessions are:

  • Higher Education, A Privacy Workshop
  • Privacy Professional Bootcamp
  • Third Party Assessments - Criteria for Evaluations
  • State of Spyware Issues - Protecting Yourself and Your Organization
  • A Global Perspective in Data Security Breaches and Enforcement

Visit www.privacysummit.org to find out which sessions are paired to complement each other.

As the Precons come to a close, it's time for fun and relaxation with the Welcome Reception with exhibitors and Networking Dinner Kick-off, sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Keynotes will be featured the morning of March 8. By 11:30 a.m., the conference programming will be in full swing, with hour-long sessions, including Social Security Numbers and State Law Restrictions - 10 Things You Need To Know and E-Discovery: Privacy in Complex Multi-National Litigation.

After lunch, attendees may choose from 90-minute sessions in two categories of programming - Advanced or General. Among the diverse offerings are opportunities to meet with privacy regulators, privacy career planning and how-to sessions on audit preparation, investigation and response to privacy incidents and remote information security.

The IAPP will then host its signature member reception, the IAPP Privacy Summit Gala Reception. Sponsored by Deloitte, this year's reception will be held amid the splendor of the National Building Museum's Great Hall, the site of 16 presidential inaugural balls.

On Friday, March 9, certification testing will be under way as the Government, International, Healthcare/ Pharma, Consumer Marketing, Financial Services and Human Resources working groups meet for two hours.

Friday's hour-long programming will feature Managing Investigations and Litigations in the European Union, Information Sharing, New Media Channels and Privacy Implications, and a presentation by (ISC)2, Forensics and Security After an Incident.

The Closing Keynotes will take place during the IAPP Privacy Summit 07 luncheon, sponsored by KPMG. A special focus of the Summit will be the launch of the IAPP's "What is a Privacy Pro?" campaign, underwritten by KPMG. The IAPP will reveal the results of our call to members to complete the phrase, "A Privacy Pro is …" in 80 words or fewer. After receiving hundreds of entries, the IAPP will announce the winner at the March 9 luncheon.

If you haven't done so already, we urge you to register now for the Summit. Don't miss the opportunity to be part of the largest annual gathering of privacy pros who rely on the Summit for the best networking, education and certification available to our profession.
