This month, the IAPP has exciting news to share with our members.

First, we have broken the 2,500 IAPP membership mark - an enormous achievement that is a testament to our influence and importance in the international marketplace. The increased visibility of privacy and security issues has made the role of the privacy professional all the more vital and necessary - and IAPP is proud to promote and advance our growing profession. With members from more than 20 countries, the IAPP is enthusiastic about the opportunity to extend our voice to a broader community.

And that brings me to our second announcement. In July we unveiled a new monthly e-publication, INSIDE 1to1: Privacy. The IAPP has partnered with the esteemed Peppers & Rogers Group and 1to1 Media to publish this essential privacy newsletter to more than 30,000 subscribers.

Some IAPP members already may be subscribers to INSIDE 1to1: Privacy. For those who are unfamiliar with the publication, let me offer some background and explanation about the IAPP's role.

The Peppers & Rogers Group and 1to1 Media have published the monthly online newsletter since 2002. Each month, the publication offers two privacy-related stories to help readers maximize the value of the customer relationship by earning customer trust -a hallmark of Peppers & Rogers' marketing strategy. Subscribers also will find the publication a valuable resource for privacy tools, job postings and significant marketplace developments.

For IAPP members who would like to opt-in to receive INSIDE 1to1: Privacy, visit our Web site at iapp.org. We hope you will find this publication to be an additional resource for your endeavors.

As for other IAPP developments, registration is now open for the IAPP Privacy Academy 2006, Oct. 18-20, in Toronto, Canada. We are planning an exciting lineup of more than 100 speakers for this first-ever IAPP conference outside the U.S. We especially are excited to offer certification testing for our first international credential, the Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C). Please visit our Web site today to register for this exciting conference, which will include a special reception at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

And one last reminder for your summer To-Do List: visit our Web site to opt-in by August 15 to be included in the IAPP 2006 Member Directory, an exclusive benefit for IAPP members looking to network with colleagues.

Have a great summer!

J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP
