According to figures before the House of Commons, the personal data of 144,000 Canadians was breached by federal departments or agencies over the past two years, CBC News reports. Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada Spokesperson Vito Pilieci said there are concerns “about strong indications of systemic under-reporting.” The Canada Revenue Agency, Health Canada, Employment and Social Development Canada and Immigration, and Department of National Defence are among the departments reporting breaches. Privacy Commissioner of Canada Daniel Therrien has previously called for mandatory breach reporting.
