As the Privacy Program Manager for Facebook’s Office of the Data Protection Officer (ODPO), Ria Laurent-Hughes is based in the UK, Ria is responsible for delivering the privacy program and handling strategic implementation from Privacy By Design through to full governance. Ria is supporting the members of the ODPO team in planning, developing, and implementing privacy projects.
Ria is a Global Privacy Manager, OneTrust Fellow of Privacy Technology, former Women’s Network Chair and Race Equality Network board member. Operating across the UK, EU, and the U.S., she has delivered privacy programs, digital transformation projects and consulting services to industry-leading clients whilst building multi-disciplinary teams in-person & remotely.
Ria began her journey shadowing the Global Head of Data Privacy & Ethics at a F500 enterprise; progressing to manage privacy operations and program governance. Her responsibilities have included being Head of the Privacy Management Software ‘Centre of Excellence’, executing company-wide training workshops, mentoring Privacy Project Managers, and developing privacy frameworks, policies & documentation. With her experience spanning industry-wide, Ria has developed the skills required to establish, maintain, and manage a privacy program across its operational lifecycle.
Ria earned her master’s degree in computer science from the University of Warwick, and her bachelor’s degree in mathematical sciences with a study year abroad from a California State University.
In her free time, Ria loves to travel, to dance both socially & professionally and to host events with friends!
Random fact: Ria has previously lived on a pretty, blue boat (Dutch barge) near Hampton Court.
