About the IAPP

Shannon Straw is Senior Assistant General Counsel at YP (formerly Yellowpages.com), a leading marketing solutions provider in the U.S., whose business search sites - yp.com and the YP℠ app - are used by nearly 60 million consumers each month.  Shannon advises on all aspects of YP’s digital media business, including product design, development, implementation, and marketing, as well as strategic relationships and PR.  Such counsel routinely entails how to best handle, incorporate, and communicate about data, in accordance with current privacy and security standards, given the vast amount of consumer and business information potentially generated by YP’s online properties and digital advertising endeavors.  Shannon also works closely with YP’s Compliance Officer on matters regarding privacy and certifications and serves on YP’s Specifications and Standards Committee.  She earned her JD from the University of Michigan Law School and also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Policy Studies from Michigan’s Ford School, and a BA from Duke University.  Prior to joining YP, she worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Fulton County (Atlanta), Georgia, where she helped launch its White Collar Crime Division.  She currently resides in Los Angeles.
