Stella Sofía Vanegas
Stella Vanegas is a lawyer specialized in data privacy, IT and Financial Services. She was ranked as a Band 2 Lawyer in Chambers and Partners Latin America in 2020 in the category of TMT, in 2018 she was granted the recognition by the French Leaders League Ranking as an outstanding regional lawyer in intellectual property and data protection, and in 2020, she was included in the list of Best Lawyers. She was also elected in 2021 as General Director of Adapri, the National Association of Data and Privacy in Colombia and holds the position of Chair of the Spanish Speaking Committee at Privacy Rules LATAM.
She is a Partner at her own legal firm: Vanegas Morales Consultores, based in Bogota, and regularly advises clients belonging to the private and public sector in matters involving Privacy and Data Protection, Commercial and Consumer Law, among others. As a privacy advisor she aims to create personalized tools that allow lawyers and Data Protection Officers to identify and prevent risks by generating awareness and knowledge to mitigate and prevent negative outcomes or security breaches, as well as engagement of Managers and Decision-Making Officers in the implementation of a privacy culture.
Because of this, Stella is a leader and pioneer in developing and implementing privacy compliance programs in high level companies in Colombia, among a wide variety of industries including: Technology, Health, Insurance, Banking, The Stock Market, Education and Real State. Furthermore, she is highly experienced in directing and coordinating projects inside companies, that include the implementation of new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Big Data. Stella is also a Professor on Privacy and Consumer Law at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and has taught several courses on the matter. At IAPP, she holds the position of Co-Chair of the Knowledge Net Chapter of Colombia since 2020.
