Privacy Manager, Research and Innovation

Derek is a Privacy Analyst for the “ConnectingOntario” program.  Based out of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, he helps sites across the Greater Toronto Area with the adoption of the province’s new electronic health

records system. A lawyer by training, Derek has worked in various professional capacities at all three levels of government, including positions with the B.C. and Ontario Human Rights Commissions, the Competition Bureau, Toronto Public Library and the Ministry of Education. 

He articled at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. 

 

Derek earned his law degree from the University of Victoria along with a B.A. in Political Studies from Queen’s University. A newcomer to the privacy field, Derek obtained his CIPP/C in 2016 and is currently pursuing Ryerson University’s Certificate in Privacy, Access, and Information Management.

 

In his spare time, Derek volunteers as a Board Member for both the Purple Elephant – a non-profit focused on raising awareness about dementia – and the Chinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic.
